And in a parallel universe, somewhere in the Stone Age in the Wood of Tangles, we must manually dig out scoop after scoop after scoop after scoop of raw, dry, ground coffee from an unsanitary package--heaven knows what infectious microbes have snuck in along the way--and transmit these scoops over some distance to fill a paper filter. Then we employ raw, basic, imperfect human instincts to measure an amount of water equal to the aforementioned scoops and, guess whether the taste of the coffee will be right, and whether the amount of caffeine will be sufficient. If we are lucky, we will have guessed right...and we do somehow manage to get a perfect cup of coffee...at least every once in a great while. We wait in faith and anticipation of a better day to come when this almost unbearable era of constant toil and drudgery will come to a close...
